MINERAL LINEATION

The fabric element defining the lineations is either a mineral grain or a cluster of mineral grains when it is called a mineral lineation. Mineral lineations may form by: (i) growth of a mineral in a preferred direction because of the stresses imposed on the mineral during its growth (ii) rotation of a mineral toward a principal strain direction during progressive deformation, (iii) Stretching of mineral grains parallel to the X direction of finite strain, (iv) Stretching of mineral grains in response to concentrated shear in a give direction.
