SHEATH FOLDS

When the fold is subjected to simple shear whose shear amount varies within the shear plane, the folds such as Sheath folds (Cobbold and Quinquinnes 1981) are produced. The cross sections of sheath folds may look like eyed folds but these are not produced by fold interference. The shapes of cross sections look like biconvex lenses if the simple shear is not very strong.
