BARBERTON GREENSTONE BELT

One of the classical examples of a greenstone belt, this is one that has all components such as sedimentary sequence the Moodies, the Fig Tree and Onverwacht groups, the acid and basic volcanics or an example of bimodal volcanism, the diapiric granite plutons and the intrusive bodies and the bedded iron bearing formations. The belt, 2.7 Ga extends from south African republic into the adoining states of Zimbabwe and Mozambique. For detailed structural or tectonic information, please refer to the work by deWitt.
