BOUDIN LINES

When the competent layer is stretched and boudinage giving rise to sausage shaped structures, the tensile fractures or extensional cracks that lie normal to e1 run as long lines parallel to fold hinges which in most cases is parallel to e2 (may be zero or close to it). These trace out on folded surfaces as trajectories of the actual fractures and are called boudin lines.
