BUCKLING STABILITY, LAYER OLIQUE TO COMPRESSION

A layer buckling with layer boundaries oblique to maximum compression direction, give rise to asymmetrical folds though at the initiation of these buckles the folds are, indeed symmetrical. The asymmetry as a result of shear parallel to the two limbs being at variance from the very early stage of buckling (see Treagus, 1973).
