CLEAVAGE NOT PARALLEL TO XY PLANE OF
FSE
A material plane may fail to rotate parallel to the XY plane of fse.
The material plane can be a planar fabric and since this has failed to
rotate parallel to XY plane, shear may develop along it and dislocation
can be observed. Only a small deviation is enough to cause substantial
shear. The figure shows the plot of % shortening in e3 against the angle
by which the material plane departs from XY plane. The fields of k=0, k=1
and k=infinity have very limited ranges. As the shortening increases, the
material plane becomes more and more aligned close to XY plane. In weakly
deformed rocks, this discrepancy is therefore much more than in strongly
deformed ones. The shortening component reduces the disparity.
