Gravity, thrust and strike slip fault

Gravity Faults: Extend  the earth's crust tangential to the earth's surface and thin or shorten it vertically or in the direction of the earth's gravitational field: Common in grabens and rift systems

Thrusts: Extend or thicken  the earth's crust vertically in the direction of the earth's gravitational field and shorten it  tangential to the earth's surface thicken : Common in orogens or mountain belts.

Transcurrent or strike slip: The earth's crust is not thickened or thinned but is extended and shortened tangential to the surface.
