VALVIS HOTSPOT

The hotspot that first became active in the Atlantic and oldest rocks occur close to the S American east coast where Rio Grande submarine volcanoes ridge ends and near west African coast where Valvis ridge ends. Valvis is still active and causing extension at rates between 10 to 16 cms a year.
