XENOLITHS IN SHEAR ZONE

From Helvetic nappes after Ramsay and Allison 1979. In the Maggia Lapen dextral shear zone, the basic xenoliths are highly deformed into shapes as ribbons. Away from the zone margins, the original angular shapes as a result of magmatic stoping and wedging can be seen. Photograph from Ramsay and Allison, 1979.
