Synoptic View of all possible outcrop patterns that may result are shown in the figure below. The two entities considered in this are the two angles, these being (1) the angle between the axial plane of early folds and the amplification direction of late folds and (2) the angle between first fold axis and the axes of late folds. There can be infinite number of outcrop patterns formed by combinations of of the two out of which only nine are shown. However, more recent work shows that there are more parameters that can be considered.
